Sunny recommends thinking about how you can help others instead of thinking about yourself. This, she says, could change everything.
It’s possible to build a brand and business without spending a dime by using YouTube the right way.
On YouTube, the number of targeted views is what you’re after, not the number of subscribers.
When first making videos for YouTube, start where your strengths are. Start very simply.

We’re so excited to have Sunny on the show today.
All right, Thriving Launchers, here we are with Sunny. We want to talk about how to get your message on YouTube, how to be a boss on YouTube, and how to get more YouTube views.
Without further ado, welcome to the show, Sunny. Are you ready to launch?
I am ready.
Thank you so much for having me.
Sunny, you’ve done a lot of great things when it comes YouTube. I just went to your event. I know you’ve teamed up with various people. You’ve done a lot of work with people like Hootsuite, Applebees, Brandon Lucero with Sold With Video. You’re someone that has learned how to get more YouTube views to build your business and your brand, get your voice out there, and you help other people do that.
My first question for you is why YouTube is important? Why should we be paying much attention to knowing how to get more YouTube views?
For me, Youtube is important for two main reasons.
Importance of Learning How To Get More YouTube Views
- It’s the only place that you can see long-terms success from your content.
It means that YouTube is going to drive traffic, lead, and business your way even when you’re sleeping. That’s the beauty of YouTube for me.
If you’re using it in the right way, and you’re creating content that is going to attract your target audience, it is going to attract your target audience for years and years to come, and we can get into the strategy of how that works a little bit later.
- YouTube is almost having this huge come back right now because every other platform we’re seeing, the algorithms changed.
We see the pay to play model. We’re seeing having to spend money to make money. Whereas on YouTube, you truly, and I have, and my clients and students do build businesses without having to spend a dime on advertising.
I think those are the two main reasons why YouTube is so vital and important to businesses.
I agree with you, and we’ve had other YouTube experts on the show like Brandon Lucero.
I want to hear the secret sauce for you. What is one thing you feel is essential for making your YouTube channels successful and in learning how to get more YouTube views?
Maybe I’m too wordy, but there are a few things here as well.
How To Get More YouTube Views – Start In The Education Space
I don’t know if there’s one thing I can pinpoint it down to on how to get more YouTube views, but I do believe that starting in the Education space with your YouTube channel is going to help you grow the fastest and also attract the right audience for your business.
Your customers right now are looking for answers to their questions and solutions to the problems they’re having. You can be the person or the business that answers that for them on YouTube, and that’s how they discover you. I think that’s a huge part of growing and gaining momentum on YouTube from the very beginning.
How To Get More YouTube Views – Consistency
I think another thing that’s important for me on how to get more YouTube views has been consistency. I’ve tried the best for years now. I just had my YouTube anniversary.
I think consistency is crucial in learning how to get more YouTube views and I believe that it’s important to say because I think the moment you start talking about YouTube, people assume, “Okay. You need to have X amount of subscribers.”
Focus On How To Get More YouTube Views Than To Get More Subscribers
I have students and clients who have less than 400 subscribers but have gained a ton of views through search. They have brought on thousands of dollars in revenue by people finding them on YouTube and hiring them.
Something I like about your messaging Sunny is that you talk about being authentic on camera, which is an essential aspect on how to get more YouTube views. That’s something Kamala and Brandon have both pushed on me. It’s something upfront and originally was tough for me.
I know as soon as that camera went on, I went into newscaster mode or professional academic Luis mode, which works great in the classroom. But it didn’t work so well on camera, and it was very hard for me to be authentic, be genuine, and even show up such as myself or vulnerable in front of the camera in a way that was relatable.
I’m curious from you. What do you suggest to people when it comes to getting in front of the camera and being comfortable which is important in knowing how to get more YouTube views?
When I watched you, I feel like I can connect with you. Whereas some of the other instructional videos, I feel the people are too professional, or they’re too by the books, so I don’t feel this connection. I don’t feel like they’re grabbing me through the camera and we’ are connecting, and then they’re teaching me. What are your suggestions around that?
I think this is probably the most common question that I’m asked. How do you overcome that initial fear of being on camera?
It’s funny for me because I did Journalism. I was a reporter. My background is in Broadcasting. I was very comfortable on camera, but when I started to think about doing YouTube, it took me a full year to get up the guts to do it because I was so focused on perfection.
How To Get More YouTube Views – Be Comfortable On Camera
My number one tip is to stop thinking about yourself and start thinking about how much you can help people.
I fell into backward in gaining the momentum on my channel because I started doing these weekly vlogs, and I was putting much time and effort into them.
The first vlog took me eight hours. I didn’t eat. I was crying and stressed out. I just wanted it to look perfect, to have the lighting, the set, and everything. That video to this day I think has a thousand views on it, and it’s been probably three years.
When I sat down one day, I made a tutorial. I truly only thought my clients were going to see it, and the reason I made it was because my clients kept asking me the same questions about, “How do you do social media?” One of the questions I was getting at that time was about, “How do you use live streaming?”
I just randomly sat down one day, didn’t put any thought into what I looked like, into the set or anything. I filmed it in my apartment on my couch, and then I sent it to my clients. The next thing I knew, I had thousands of views, and it was because I was being found and searched.
Focus On How To Get More YouTube Views And On How To Help Others
That was a valuable reason for me, and I always tell that story because the moment I stopped thinking about myself, what I sounded and looked like, and the moment I started focusing on how much I was going to help the person seeing the video, that’s when everything changed for me.
There are different types of videos that we could do. There’s talking to the camera or sitting down and having a screen share.
What do you recommend people start with and then build into?
I’d say start with where your strengths are.
For me, just talking directly to the camera was my most comfortable way of shooting a video because I thought I was just talking to my clients. It felt like I was just in a meeting with them.
As far as being comfortable on camera, another good tip is to visualize or even have a picture of your best friend, a client, someone you’re comfortable with on or beside the camera. It would make you feel like you’re speaking to a real human being because the camera is just an inanimate object. You are talking to real people. That helps you connect.
How To Get More YouTube Views – Start Simply
But for me, when I first started, I just focused on talking head kind of video, which is just me talking directly to the camera. I’d put in a few images and a few videos for people here and there but start very simply.
Some of the tips we’ve gotten from you on how to get more YouTube views are the consistency. You said post maybe one high-quality video a week and do that consistently. Another one is putting in the keyword that you researched into the title of your video, so people are going to find you.
Do you have any other tips on how to get more YouTube views?
The keyword is a vital tip on how to get more YouTube views.
How To Get More YouTube Views – Share On Social Media
Something that helps my channel grow fast and gain the momentum is sharing on social media. It’s not just posting to YouTube and hoping you’re going to get views on your YouTube video. But also, if you have one follower on the rest of your social platforms, that’s one person who already knows, likes, and trusts you, and is going to want to support you.
The moment I post a video to YouTube, I am sending it out to my email lists. I am putting it on all of my social channels, and I’m driving that warm traffic to my YouTube video.
Here’s the reason why that’s crucial from a strategic standpoint.
First 24 Hours Are Vital On How To Get More YouTube Views
The first 24 hours that your video goes live on YouTube are the most vital to ranking on page one of YouTube.
Google and YouTube recognize a video they want to rank high through social signals. That’s one of the key factors. That means likes, comments, shares, and subscribers.
The more you can get your warm traffic to support your video content on YouTube in the first 24 hours, the higher your videos going to rank and the more views you’re going to get.
I love that. It gives a lot of incentive to go out and share your video instead of just keep it to the quiet dirt corners of YouTube.
Do you have any other super power tips you have for us on how to get your videos out there? I have a particular question, but I was just wondering if there’s something else.
There are many things, but I’m just trying to think if there’s another main tip that I would suggest.
We talked about always sharing on social media.
How To Get More YouTube Views – Leveraging Storytelling
Another main tip is leveraging storytelling through platforms like Instagram stories or even Snapchat to drive immediate attention to your video because that first 24 hours is so important. That is sharing on social media but it’s doing it in a bit of a different way, and in a way that’s ephemeral.
If people catch your story in the first 24 hours of your video going live, they’re going to be more inclined to go and watch it because they know that there’s a sense of urgency to get there.
So leveraging storytelling and leveraging social storytelling through Instagram stories and Snapchat is another great tip on how to get more YouTube views.
I’d love to hear a little bit more about that. Is it saying “My video is out right now.” and then doing a screenshot of the video playing?
Yeah. That’s a great question.
Usually, what I do is I make it easy on myself because I’m not a big fan of creating more work than you need to, which I’m sure you guys can relate to. I like to have simple processes.
How To Get More YouTube Views – Create Teasers
Every time I post a video, I have a teaser that my editor creates. But before having the editor, I would create my little teasers of 15-30 seconds. It’s just the first 15-30 seconds of my full-length YouTube video. I take that, and I post it as a native video. Meaning, I upload it directly to the social platforms, and I put it on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
When I’m doing my stories, I have a particular formula for how I formulate my stories around my new videos, and it starts with creating some hook.
For example, tomorrow, I’m going to be talking about how to create an engaged Facebook group. I speak like “Do you feel like your tribe isn’t listening to you?” or something like that. “Well, this is how I built a group of 11,000 people in less than a year using YouTube.”
Then, I show the same teaser that I’ve uploaded to these social platforms. I upload that to my story directly as well. Then, I direct people to go to the full-length YouTube video.
Learning How To Get More YouTube Views Creates More Loyal Relationships
At the end of that, I ask a question to create one-to-one conversations with my community if they have any further questions or if they want to give me any feedback. That just creates more loyal relationships moving forward.
That’s all awesome stuff.
I’m curious about the call to action at the end of your video. That’s an important piece.
What would you recommend to have at the end of your video?
I use a little bit of different method than most people. I do call to action twice.
How To Get More YouTube Views – Do Call To Action Twice
The first call to action is your conversion site call to action and then the second one is your engagement call to action.
The first one, you want to get people from YouTube to go to your conversion site. Meaning, go to sign up for a downloaded PDF, an eBook, a checklist, or just go to your website in general so you can retarget them with Facebook ads later on.
You just want to get them onto a conversion site where you can turn them from viewers into potential customers. That’s the first call-to-action.
The second call to action is always engagement. Like I said, you need the social signals on your Youtube video for them to rank higher. That’s why I get people to like, comment, and subscribe to my videos. That’s my second call to action.
I say the same thing at the end of every single video, and I’m sure most people who watch my videos regularly could probably recite it at this point.
Before we close out, is there any last gem that you want to leave the Thriving Launchers with on how to get more YouTube views?
